Panangad Grama Panchayat is situated in the Baluussery Block of Thamarassery Taluk, in Kozhikode District. The Panchayat, which covers Panangad, Kanthalad, and Kinalur villages, has an area of 47 square kilometers.
The borders of this Panchayat are: Kottoor, Koorachundu, and Kattippara Panchayats to the north; Kattippara and Unnikulam Panchayats to the east; Baluussery, Nanmanda, and Unnikulam Panchayats to the south; and Nanmanda, Baluussery, and Kottoor Panchayats to the west.
Panangad is a village characterized by hills, mounds, valleys, paddy fields, and small plains. The northern part, from east to west, is dominated by mountain ranges. Steep slopes and hills like Kappikkunnu, Vazhoora, Neradi, Thorad, Manicheri, Punnathara, Kottakkunnu, Kilikudukki, Vaarimala, and Periya are all located in this region. Vayalada, Kannivayal, and Thalayad are the plains situated between these hills. The southern part, which is a valley, mainly consists of lowlands, paddy fields, and a river.
The Manjakadavu River (also known as Manjappuzha or Kottanadapuzha) originates as streams and fully takes the form of a river upon entering the Panangad Panchayat area. Additionally, streams that originate in the areas near the Periya pass in the east merge at Cheedikkuzhi and flow south along the eastern side of the Panchayat before joining the Poonoor River.
Panangad Panchayat was established on January 1, 1962. The first governing body took charge on January 1, 1963, after a year of administration by an Executive Officer. The first President of this Panchayat (formerly Baluussery) was Ukkappakkuruppu.
This Panchayat is a completely agricultural village. The topography here is a combination of major hills like Kottakunn mala, Vazhooramala, Karooramala, Kappikkunnu, Kanthaladmala, Manicheri-Kottakkunnu, Vayalada, Cheriyamanicheri, Periyamala, smaller mounds like Neradimale, Poovampayimala, Chekidamparakunnu, and the slopes, valleys, and paddy fields on both sides of the Manjakadavu River and its tributaries.
